How to lay garden pavers on dirt?

Laying garden tiles on soil is a solution used to create walkways, relaxation areas, or outdoor surfaces without resorting to
screeds or fixed structures. To achieve a stable and lasting result, however, it is essential to follow a correct installation method,
specifically designed for outdoor environments and the stresses they are subjected to.

When to choose to lay tiles on soil?

Direct installation on soil is recommended for pedestrian surfaces and for contexts where a draining and easily modifiable flooring
is desired over time. It is a suitable solution for gardens, paths, and green areas, provided that outdoor tiles with appropriate characteristics
are used: resistance to frost, thermal shocks, and good grip. Generally, larger formats and increased thicknesses are preferred,
designed to work without adhesives.

Substrate preparation, a decisive step

The success of the installation depends primarily on the preparation of the substrate. The ground must be excavated and leveled, removing
unstable parts, roots, or stagnant water. Subsequently, it is necessary to create a drainage layer, usually made of gravel or crushed stone,
well-compacted, which allows water to flow away and prevents settling over time. A leveling layer of sand or grit is spread over this layer,
useful for adjusting flatness and accommodating the tiles.

Dry laying and slope control

The tiles are dry-laid, without adhesives, by placing them on the sand bed and constantly checking alignment and level. It is important to maintain
slight slopes to encourage water drainage and avoid stagnation on the surface. The joints, left open or filled with draining materials, contribute
to the stability of the floor and allow for small settlements of the ground without compromising the installation.

Maintenance and adaptability over time

One of the main advantages of laying on soil is its flexibility: any restoration or realignment work can be carried out without demolition. Over time,
it may be necessary to supplement the joint filling material or re-establish the level in some areas, especially after heavy rains or freeze-thaw cycles.

An outdoor installation to be evaluated with the right method

Laying on soil is an effective solution if designed with attention to the context and materials. The variety of outdoor floor tiles available from
Ceramiche Dordini allows for the evaluation of surfaces suitable for this type of application, making it easier to choose products designed
to resist the outdoor environment and guarantee stability and resistance over time.
